Elinor Burwash’s love of fabric developed as a small child. She studied textiles and graduated with a B.SC in Home Economics (Clothing and Textiles), University of Alberta. Elinor went on to obtain a Masters in Education (Adult Education) that facilitates sharing her learning with others.
In university Elinor explored surface design techniques, weaving and creating 3- dimensional textiles. Designing and sewing clothing along with knitting and felting are also areas of interest. As a District Home Economist with Alberta Agriculture Elinor “discovered” quilting and realized that she had found her home in textiles.
She has taught with Alberta Agriculture, Edmonton Public School Board Continuing Education, twelve years as a staff teacher for Earthly Goods and at locations in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Her workshops focus on helping participants develop original designs from nature and from her own botanical appliqué designs.
In 2007-8 Elinor collaborated with Sandra Rochon of Calgary to develop a Canadian Baltimore Album Quilt. Ms. Burwash designed maple leaf and wreath blocks, border and corner stones. Friendship’s Offering was published in Elly Sienkiewicz’s Beloved Baltimore Album Quilts and exhibited at the Houston International Quilt Festival in 2010.
Design knowledge has been applied in judging throughout Alberta, in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, for the Edmonton & District Quilters Guild and the Focus on Fibre Arts Association and the Canadian Quilters Association.
Elinor’s passion is textiles and particularly quilting with embellishments.
